My Background ~ 13 Years ExperienceI decided to study Psychology as an undergraduate because I've always been interested in what makes people act the way they do and what lies at our essence. A native of Saint Augustine, Florida, I moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to attend the University of Michigan's School of Social Work and moved to the Asheville area to be closer to family. I served at-risk families as a therapist in Day Treatment (school for teenagers with behavior problems) and Intensive In Home Therapy. After becoming fully licensed, I began providing outpatient individual and family therapy.
I believe each spiritual path has something to offer and that there are many paths to the mountaintop. My theoretical orientation is humanistic and person centered. Providing individualized, culturally competent, evidence-based interventions to underserved people is my mission. I'm a certified Heart-Based Therapeutic Practitioner--an innovative approach that has received support from VAYA Health and was taught at MAHEC. HBT holds that we each have an innate longing to feel completely safe and unconditionally loved. When one learns to feel safe living with an open heart, a profound healing transformation can occur which leads to a tangible, kinesthetic experience of completeness that is like a baby resting in the gentleness of the mother's arms. My intention is to bring this peace and fulfilment into the sessions I provide on a daily basis. |
Who I Am
I'm a people person; I'm friendly, humorous, and outspoken yet sensitive. I'm nerdy, nurturing, and enthusiastic. I experience deep satisfaction in knowing that I have significantly helped a person, which has become part of my identity. I'm the kind of environmentalist who focuses all on my own environmental impact and prides myself on planting trees and putting my clothes on my clothesline. I stay involved with my community of friends and intentional groups, such as song circles, and support local musicians.
My hobbies include gardening, hiking, dancing, yoga, and swimming. I practice silent meditation and Open Heart meditation as part of self-care and my Spirituality. |
